OK, maybe the big Michigan and Detroit sports fan in me just needed a pick-me-up after a tough 2020. This is probably why I went down a Cameo rabbit hole recently.

You’ve probably heard of the website Cameo, where you can pay celebrities to record video messages for almost any occasion.

What I didn’t know was just how vast the options were. Under athletes alone, there were more than 8,000 names to peruse from football to rugby and skateboarding, according to Cameo.com. Crazy.

You’ve probably guessed that many of them have Detroit and Michigan sports ties, more than 100 of them actually. Here they are, including some very interesting ones that stood out to us.

23 with Detroit Pistons’ ties on Cameo

There are nearly two dozen former members of the Detroit Pistons, one former assistant coach in Tim Hardaway Sr., and one current player available in Mason Plumlee.

The fees range from $1,000 for Michael Beasley, who never played a regular-season game for Detroit, to $10 for Alexander Acker, who was drafted No. 60 in 2005 and played 12 games for Detroit.

13 Detroit Red Wings dignitaries on Cameo

Ahh, speaking of glory days, how about reminding the big Detroit Red Wings fan in your life about the good old days as they brace for another wave of losses.

Surprisingly, Hall of Fame coach Scotty Bowman put himself out there for a price. Less surprisingly, Darren McCarty is also available.

There are four current Wings in training camp with Troy Stecher, Evgeny Svechnikov, Sam Gagner, and Bobby Ryan. Rightfully so, those are the cheapest prices.

The list:

  • Brett Hull, $250
  • Scotty Bowman, $150
  • Mike Modano, $109
