The start of the NFL season is usually the start of betting season for sportsbook operators, especially for BetMGM. However, it also means an emphasis needs to be placed on responsible gambling messaging.

MGM Resorts and BetMGM are going to be displaying RG messaging across multiple NFL stadiums, including Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions. The operator is making sure responsible gambling in Michigan is a priority as the season begins.

GameSense to provide RG messaging throughout Ford Field

The MGM brand has partnered with GameSense, an industry-leading RG program, to distribute messaging around Ford Field in Detroit. The company has been licensed with MGM since 2017. Last year was the first time both parties launched this initiative at NFL stadiums.

GameSense focuses on positive, transparent and proactive engagements with guests and customers about how to gamble responsibly. In addition to Ford Field, GameSense is providing its services to the following NFL stadiums:

  • Acrisure Stadium (Pittsburgh Steelers)
  • Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas Raiders)
  • Empower Field at Mile High (Denver Broncos)
  • GHEA Field at Arrowhead Stadium (Kansas City Chiefs)
  • M&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore Ravens)
  • MetLife Stadium (New York Jets)
  • Nissan Stadium (Tennessee Titans)
  • State Farm Stadium (Arizona Cardinals)

Rhea Loney, BetMGM’s Chief Compliance Officer, said in a statement:

“We’re excited to bring responsible gaming initiatives directly to fans in these NFL venues again this season. We are setting a new standard for safety and awareness in the industry. At BetMGM, we believe that protecting our players and promoting responsible play is essential to the future of sports betting.”

To double down on the importance of responsible gambling, BetMGM is making a $440,000 contribution to fund the International Center for Responsible Gaming and Kindbridge Research Institute.

GameSense messaging to appear at other MGM facilities

In the announcement of more RG messaging in NFL stadiums, MGM dropped some nuggets of other news, too. MGM’s partnership with GameSense allows for messaging at any of the company’s properties. The press release said:

“New GameSense messaging will be displayed prominently on table games throughout MGM Resorts’ properties nationwide.”

That would mean customers at MGM Grand Detroit would potentially see more RG messaging at the tables. In addition, slot machines will also feature similar messaging, which includes information being accessible through a QR code.

BetMGM will also debut upgraded RG tools across online platforms designed to help players manage budgets, stay within limits and promote a sustainable entertainment experience.

“The importance of responsible gaming research funding cannot be overstated,” Stephen Martino, MGM Resorts SVP and Chief Compliance Officer, said in a statement.

“As a gaming industry leader, it’s imperative that our company supports efforts to better understand the diverse impact gambling has on various populations, including those that may be at greater risk of developing problematic behaviors.”

With MGM’s presence as large as it is in Michigan, the RG messaging should be just as big, too.
