The Detroit Pistons are sitting out this NBA postseason. So who better than all-time sharpshooter Steph Curry to cook up a playoff kickoff sports betting promo in Michigan?
That’s where BetMGM Sportsbook is turning with tonight’s featured play-in game at 10 p.m. featuring the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers. Here are some quick details on the bonus opportunity.
Golden State Warriors bet = 3-point bonus
The concept from BetMGM is simple, really. First, place a $25 bet or more on any remaining Golden State Warriors game. The bet can come on either side of the ledger.
Then, every 3-pointer made by Curry (who ranks second all-time in triples with more than 2,800) will add $2 to a banked free bet for later on. The maximum freeroll here is $50, or 25 3-pointers.
Users must opt in to the promo, which can be cashed through June 22 if the Warriors are playing that long. From there, the Warriors will have at least two games remaining.
- Wednesday: at Los Angeles Lakers, 10 p.m. ET
- *Friday: vs. Memphis/San Antonio, time TBD (if Golden State loses Wednesday)
- First-round series: vs. Phoenix Suns (if Golden State wins Wednesday)
The top six seeds earned automatic births into the first round. The Warriors finished eighth, thus hitting the road to take on the seventh-place Lakers in the first play-in game before having an opportunity at a home game for the No. 8 spot should they lose.
Moreover, Curry has been a man on fire down the stretch, scoring 30 or more points in 20 out of 23 games since April 1. He’s made six or more 3-pointers 13 times in that span. The torrid pace had him jumping up the league MVP odds boards, although the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic finished as an overwhelming -2000 favorite in most books.
BetMGM boost comes in quiet sports betting period
BetMGM’s sportsbook property had an excellent March in Michigan. The property was second in online handle at about $92.6 million in the NCAA Tournament month. It also led the gross revenue race at just over $9.5 million.
In April, BetMGM was third ($54.9 million, 22.0% market share) in handle among Michigan operators.
Furthermore, the company’s internet casino wing has been holding first place since overall launch in late January. Combine those factors with a burgeoning poker outlet, and a small, targeted promotion such as the Steph Curry betting promo won’t do much to hinder potential revenue gains down the line.
In fact, smaller, targeted bonuses such as this “Chef Curry” campaign could become more commonplace across the Michigan sports betting landscape as the historically quiet summer months close in.
