The newest retail sportsbook in Michigan is officially open.
On Sunday, Bay Mills Resort & Casino celebrated the grand opening of DraftKings Sportsbook at its location in Brimley.
The permanent sportsbook is one of the many new amenities coming to Bay Mills in the coming years.
Draftkings retail Sportsbook opens at Bay Mills
To commemorate DraftKings Sportsbook’s grand opening, leaders from Bay Mills, DraftKings and the Sault Ste Marie Chamber of Commerce were on hand Sunday in a ribbon cutting ceremony.
“We’re excited to finally launch the retail DraftKings Sportsbook in our casino,” said Richard LeBlanc, General Manager of Bay Mills Resort and Casino, in a press release. “It has been equally gratifying to demonstrate our DraftKings partnership to our guests and community, which will positively impact our region for years to come.”
DraftKings Sportsbook at Bay Mills features eight large high-definition televisions, three odds boards and four betting kiosks. Two additional betting kiosks are also located on the main casino floor.
“We are thrilled to expand our incredible partnership with the Bay Mills Indian Community and to create an amenity that all guests can enjoy at one of the premier entertainment destinations in Northern Michigan,” said Michael Kibort, Sr. Director of Retail Sportsbook Operations at DraftKings. “Our new sportsbook at Bay Mills Resort & Casino will offer sports fans an unmatched high-energy, year-round immersive sports betting experience.”
DraftKings retail sportsbook will include food and beverage options starting at 11 a.m. ET daily.
The sports betting kiosks will be available 24 hours a day.
DraftKings a leader among MI’s top online sportsbooks
Since Michigan online sports betting was legalized in January of 2021, DraftKings has had a strong foundation in the state.
DraftKings Sportsbook MI sits as Michigan’s third-leading online sportsbook with $1.72 billion in handle. It sits firmly with FanDuel Sportsbook MI and BetMGM Michigan as the state’s top three online options. The three have combined for over $5.56 billion in online handle.
In September, DraftKings led the state in online sports betting handle with $108.2 million. It marked a continued trend that has seen DraftKings emerge as a top online sportsbook and casino during football season.
$65 million expansion project coming to Bay Mills
Along with the new retail sportsbook, Bay Mills is set to begin a $65 million expansion project in the spring of 2023.
The project will upgrade many of the amenities at Bay Mills Resort & Casino.
Interior upgrades will include:
- 134 additional rooms with balconies
- New deli
- Spa with massage therapy rooms
- Pool with a splash pad
- Hot tubs
- Nail salon
- Fitness center
- Arcade
- Conference spaces
- Storefront
Employees of the resort will also be treated to an expanded break room that will provide additional space for staff to relax in.
Upgrades on the exterior will feature:
- New fishing piers
- Gardens
- Gazebos
- Outdoor patios
- Marina upgrades
DSGW will be serving as architects for the project, which is expected to be completed in 2024.
