Georgia currently favored to avenge SEC Championship loss

As we look ahead to Monday’s championship game, FanDuel lists Georgia as the favorite against Alabama.

The site has the Bulldogs as a 2.5-point favorite against the Tide. While you will get +3000 on the moneyline in the promotion, FanDuel was listing Georgia at -140 on Monday. Bama was coming in at +120.

If the over/under total is also of interest to you, FanDuel lists it at 52.5 points.

Both teams come into Monday’s championship 13-1 on the season.

Alabama already owns a 41-24 win over Georgia in the SEC Championship. Since that game, both teams dominated their respective playoff semifinal games. Bama ran over Cincinnati in the Cotton Bowl 27-6. Georgia dominated Michigan 34-11 in the Orange Bowl.

Can Alabama pull off another upset?

Alabama was a 6-point underdog in the first meeting with Georgia on Dec. 4, yet still won convincingly.

Yet, the Tide find themselves as an underdog again.

It’s quite interesting considering that Nick Saban has had Georgia’s number. The Tide has won seven straight meetings in this series. The last UGA win over Bama came back in 2007.

Former Saban assistant, Kirby Smart, is 0-4 against his mentor as head coach of the Bulldogs.

Still, oddsmakers like UGA’s top-ranked defense. The Bulldogs allow just 9.5 points per game, which leads the nation. Their total defense gives up just 254.4 yards per game.

Alabama was able to torch that very defense for 536 total yards. Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young threw for 421 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.

Bama’s lone loss this season was 41-38 to Texas A&M back on Oct. 9. The Aggies needed a kick return for a score and forced two turnovers to edge the Tide at home.
