Don't Regret The Bet campaign wins another award

The Michigan Gaming Control Board recently received another award for its “Don’t Regret the Bet” ad campaign.

Through a partnership with King Media, the series of Michigan responsible gambling ads was given a 2023 Platinum MarCom Award.

This makes the third award that the MGCB has collected over the last three months for this ad campaign.

MarCom Awards recognize ‘Don’t Regret the Bet’

The MarCom Awards recognize outstanding achievement by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design, and production of marketing and communication materials and programs.

This international competition received more than 6,500 entries this year, spanning 45 different countries.

Included in the submissions were corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, public relations firms, design shops, production companies, and freelancers.

In the end, “Don’t Regret the Bet” was deemed one of the top entries, receiving the platinum level award.

“When you look at the creativity and innovation that ‘Don’t Regret the Bet’ brings to the advertising and marketing landscape, coupled with its ability to break through the noise of gambling ads that are widely prevalent, it’s nothing short of remarkable,” MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said in a press release.

“This latest award recognition from MarCom just goes to show we have an effective campaign — and that’s good news for the citizens of Michigan because it demonstrates our commitment to promoting responsible gaming messaging that works and that people remember.”

Along with the Platinum MarCom Award, the MGCB and King Media also have received a Platinum dotCOMM Award and a Platinum Viddy Award for their campaign.

‘Don’t Regret the Bet’ an expansive ad campaign

The “Don’t Regret the Bet” marketing campaign was designed to prevent gambling problems before they start. Further, it was also done in hopes of reducing the number of Michiganders who develop a serious gambling addiction.

You can find the ads being displayed across multiple mediums. Ads for the campaign have been produced for:

  • Broadcast television
  • Radio broadcasts
  • Point-of-sale video ads at gas stations
  • Digital billboards
  • Social media
  • Streaming services
  • Podcasts

“The Michigan Gaming Control Board has been an incredible champion for problem gambling prevention,” said Coleen King, president and founder of King Media, in a statement.

“Don’t Regret the Bet and its success reflect that commitment. It’s an honor to work alongside the MGCB team. It’s important work and it’s not just winning international acclaim — it’s changing lives and improving communities. That’s the biggest win of all.”

Along with the advertisements, the MGCB also has an educational website it launched as part of the campaign.

DontRegretTheBet.org has information on responsible gaming that includes resources, gaming tools, self-assessment information and signs of problem gambling.

Also, the MGCB also launched an interactive quiz with 10 statements that require a “yes” or “no” answer. The more statements that pertain to a visitor indicates how much more at risk they are of being a problem gambler.

Further, if someone has a gambling problem, please call the state’s 24-hour, toll-free helpline at 1-800-270-7117 or the MGCB’s responsible gaming section at 1-888-223-3044.
