The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) was recognized for an extremely important cause and effort. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences awarded the MGCB with a Michigan Chapter Emmy for its “Don’t Regret The Bet” campaign that launched in March 2023.

The MGCB collaborated with ad agency, King Media, and a creative company, Cutters Studio, to produce a creative and compelling campaign that highlights the importance of responsible gambling in Michigan.

Since being published in March 2023, the ad has received tons of national and even international honors.

MGCB wins another honor for Responsible Gambling campaign

“Don’t Regret The Bet” ad is a one-minute video that displays possible effects from irresponsible gambling. According to the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the video stood out in the Graphic Arts – Motion Graphics category.

In collaboration with King Media and Cutters Studio, the campaign exhibited excellence in design and creative storytelling. Responsible gambling has always been a pillar of the MGCB.

“The Board’s commitment to promoting responsible gaming and raising awareness about the potential risks associated with gambling is exemplified through this award-winning campaign, and I am so grateful for the partnership we have cultivated with King Media to help us get the word out about ‘Don’t Regret the Bet,’” MGCB Executive Director, Henry Williams, said in a statement.

“Through engaging and visually compelling motion graphics, the campaign continues to successfully convey its message of responsible gaming to a wide audience—and I thank the MGCB’s Responsible Gaming Section, King Media, and their creative partners for their excellent work on this endeavor.”

The campaign has been spread across various mediums in the Great Lakes State, including TV and radio, digital billboards, social media, streaming services, podcast advertisements, and more.

The MGCB has also pushed a website, DontRegretTheBet.org, which includes responsible gambling resources, gaming tools, self-assessment information and signs of problem gambling.

‘Don’t Regret The Bet’ has won numerous awards

Sandra Johnson, manager of MGCB’s Responsible Gaming Section, has received tons of recognition for this effort, and deservedly so. This is the eighth award the campaign has won since launch.

This year, Don’t Regret the Bet has already received AVA Digital Platinum Awards in both the Digital Marketing Campaign and Creativity in Web Design categories. Its latest honor came in May from the PRNEWS Digital Award for finishing first in the Facebook Platform Presence category.

In 2023, the ad won the following awards:

  • Viddy Platinum Award in the Integrated Marketing category
  • MarCom Platinum Award in the Digital Marketing Campaign category
  • Two dotCOMM Platinum Awards – one in the Digital Marketing Campaign category and one in the Website Elements/Microsite category

Johnson spoke of the hard work put into the project due to the board’s latest Emmy award. Responsible gambling is at the top of her mind every day.

“As we come to work each day, it reminds us of the importance of our mission to educate and protect the residents of the communities we serve,” she said.
