Billion

$1,000,000,000. That is a lot of zeros.

The Michigan Lottery is currently hosting the BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™. It will give 15 lucky lottery players from Michigan a chance to pocket a cool $1 billion.

How to play the BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™

The journey to $1 billion starts with the purchase of a GOLDEN TICKET™ II at one of over 11,000 Michigan Lottery retailers.

Every ticket offers up to 20 chances to instantly win prizes ranging from $10 to $1 million. So far, lottery players have earned more than $9 million in GOLDEN TICKET™ II prizes.

Even better, non-winning tickets have a chance to win. The BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™ second-chance promotion can turn a non-winning GOLDEN TICKET™ II into $1 billion.

Here’s how it works: every non-winning ticket goes into a drawing for a chance to win a BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™ Trip.

To enter:

  1. Sign up for or Sign in to your Michigan Lottery Account
  2. Enter non-winning ticket numbers
  3. Return to the winner’s page to see if you are a lucky trip winner

Two drawings already took place on July 31 and Aug. 28. There are three more BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™ Trip drawing dates:

  • Sept. 25
  • Oct. 23
  • Nov. 30

Winner, winner

The first six BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™ Trip winners are:

  • Robert Haack of Rochester Hills, MI
  • Douglas Palicki of Manitou Beach, MI
  • Norman Reece of South Lyon, MI
  • Jennifer Bell of Detroit, MI
  • Jennifer Burbary of Sterling Heights, MI
  • Jill Hoppe of Bay City, MI

Each winner is awarded a four-day trip for two to Las Vegas, Nevada sometime in spring 2019. The prize is valued at $7,500 and includes:

  • Roundtrip coach airfare for up to two
  • Ground transfers
  • One deluxe hotel room for three nights
  • $1,000 spending money
  • Admission to the BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™ theater
  • Participation in the BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™
  • The chance to win $1 billion

Fifteen Michigan players, along with players from other participating lotteries, will be eligible to play for $1 billion. Scientific Games and its state lottery partners are running the promotion.

The journey to $1 billion

The CHALLENGE date and time are unknown, but will be held sometime in the spring of 2019.

The event itself will include two elimination rounds.

In the first round, all finalists will receive identical envelopes. Five envelopes contain “GOLDEN TICKET” and will advance to the second round. The remaining envelopes contain an award of $1,000 to $25,000. Their journey to the $1 billion ends with their prize amount.

Round two begins with the five GOLDEN TICKET holders from round 1. Five identical envelopes are passed out. Four envelopes contain “$1 Million Spin,” and one envelope contains “GOLDEN TICKET.”

The $1 million spinners get to spin a prize wheel three times. The prize wheel contains prizes from $10,000 to $25,000 plus a “Spin Again” and “GOLDEN TICKET.” The participant wins the cumulative of all three spins. Landing on “GOLDEN TICKET” on all three spins earns the participant $1 million.

The GOLDEN TICKET winner from round two goes on to play for $1 billion through a series of steps that include envelopes and multipliers. Once a participant advances to round two and reveals the GOLDEN TICKET, he/she will have a one in 2,625 chance to win the $1 billion.

The rules, odds and winners are on the Michigan Lottery’s website.
