What’s better than winning the Michigan Lottery once?
That would be winning the lottery twice.
One lucky Oakland County man capitalized on a mistake, accidentally buying the same ticket twice for a Fantasy 5 drawing.
However, the mistake paid off as those numbers helped him earn a six-figure payday.
Two Michigan Lottery jackpots in one
The 67-year-old winner chose to remain anonymous, but was a regular Fantasy 5 ticket buyer for the Michigan Lottery.
For the Feb. 6 drawing, he purchased his tickets online and unknowingly bought matching tickets.
“Every week I purchase a multi-draw Fantasy 5 ticket with the same set of numbers I have been playing for four years,” the winner said in a press release. “I was going out of town, so I bought a multi-draw ticket to cover the drawings while I was gone. There was some overlap on the drawings of the new ticket I had purchased and the multi-draw ticket I had purchased a few days prior.”
The oversight paid off handsomely for the Oakland County man. With numbers 04-10-12-20-30, he won the $120,169 jackpot twice. That resulted in more than $240,000 in winnings.
“I logged into my Lottery account after the drawing to check my tickets and I couldn’t believe it when I saw a $240,338 prize pending,” he said. “When I realized that I had won on one of the drawings both tickets covered to win $120,169 on each, I couldn’t help but laugh!”
The lucky winner plans to use the winnings towards his son’s education and then save the remainder.
$1 million Michigan Lottery Big Spin winner

However, a 48-year-old Wayne County woman just recently won $1 million on the instant ticket.
“Me and my husband were watching TV one night, and I got a random urge to go buy a lottery ticket,” said the anonymous player. “I told my husband about this lucky feeling, so we went out and bought a few tickets and I scratched them when we got home. When I saw I’d won $1 million on my The Big Spin ticket, I called for my daughter and husband and had them look the ticket over. I’m still in shock and get shaky at the thought of winning $1 million!”
So far, Michigan players have won more than $13 million playing The Big Spin. This winner chose a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000.

We are just two months into 2023 and Michigan Lottery players are cashing in.
A total of 24 different winners in Michigan have collected at least $100,000 in prize money.
Among those prizes, eight have been at leas $280,000 and four have been $1 million or more.
Throughout 2022, a total of 49 prizes of $1 million or more were given out to Michigan Lottery players.
