A lucky Macomb County man has had his fill of second chances.
The unidentified Michigan native was announced this week as having won his second Big Cash Second Chance jackpot this year as part of the Michigan Lottery.
Over the span of five months, he collected over $800,000.
Macomb man two-time winner in Big Cash Second Chance drawing
The Macomb County man took home July’s Big Cash Second Chance jackpot in a drawing held on Aug. 9. That jackpot was worth $573,617.
Earlier this year, the same man won the Second Chance jackpot drawing for February, which totaled $261,935.
Between the two jackpots, the individual has collected $835,552 in winnings.
“I play the Big Cash games online because I like the chance to win the progressive prize,” said the 62-year-old player. “When I won earlier this year it was a huge surprise but it was an even bigger surprise that I won a second time. I never expected to win and winning twice has been such a blessing. Being able to invest this money for my retirement means I can retire sooner than I was planning to and spend time with my family.”
How Michigan Lottery Second Chance drawings work
Select Michigan Lottery online instant games include a second chance progressive jackpot drawing.
Part of each purchase of the game goes toward a progressive jackpot prize. That jackpot is awarded in a second chance drawing each month.
Players earn one entry for every $0.50 wagered playing eligible games, such as Big Cash Second Chance. After the entry period ends, the random drawing is held with one jackpot winner being selected each month.
Entries are only available for that given month’s drawing. Players must earn new entries to be included in the following month’s drawing.
Big Cash Second Chance was launched by the Michigan Lottery in April of 2022. Since, more than $4.7 million in progressive prizes have been given away in monthly drawings.
Starting with March of 2023 ($625,162) each second chance drawing has been over $500,000.
Over 100 six-figure Michigan Lottery winners in 2023
The six-figure winnings for the Macomb County man are just two of over 100 prizes the Michigan Lottery has given away this year.
Through the first eight months of 2023, the Michigan Lottery has 137 prizes of at least $100,000 awarded to players in the state.
A total of 27 prizes of $1 million or more have been dished out in 2023 along, include an $8.75 million prize earlier this month for a lucky winner playing Lotto 47.
Just in the last seven days, seven prizes of $100,000 or more have been awarded in Michigan. That includes a $1 million winner from Powerball in Livonia.
With these large giveaways, it’s easy to see why the Michigan Lottery is the biggest contributor to the state’s gambling tax revenue. In Fiscal Year 2022, the Michigan Lottery contributed $1.25 billion in tax revenue to the state.
