For the second straight month, a Michigan Lottery second chance progressive jackpot winner claimed more than $500K.
A Kent County man won $538,958 in the monthly drawing, which took place on May 10. Entries into the drawings are earned by playing eligible monthly jackpot games on the Michigan Lottery website or app.
It’s the second-highest prize amount in a little more than a year of the drawing’s existence. The highest was a month ago, when the winner received more than $625K.
Michigan Lotto second chance jackpot winner went from unlucky to lucky
The 60-year old, who chose to remain anonymous, knew he was racking up entries to the contest, but didn’t give much thought to winning.
“I knew I was earning entries when playing the Monthly Jackpot Progressive games, but I am not a lucky person, so I never thought I would win,” the player told the Michigan Lottery. “I got a call from the Lottery one day telling me I’d won a $538,958 Monthly Jackpot Progressive prize, and I was skeptical because I thought it was a scam call. When I got off the phone with the Lottery employee, I saw I also had an email regarding the prize, and that’s when I knew it was real. I was extremely excited and shared the news with everyone I know!”
He said he plans to pay off his house and save the remaining money.
How to enter Michigan Lottery Second Chance Progressive Jackpot drawings
The Michigan Lottery launched its second chance progressive jackpot drawings in March of 2022. Each month, a selection of online Michigan Lotto games can earn players entries into the drawing.
Every $0.50 wagered on the eligible games earns a player one entry, while parts of the wagers from each game come together to fund the progressive prize.
The eligible games for May are Cash Vault, Viva Las Jackpots, Michigan Multiplier Wilds, Lucky Start, Mystery Vault and May Jackpot.
Entries can be earned through the end of the month, with the next drawing scheduled for June 14.
