There’s nothing quite like waking up and finding $5.42 million in your account.

That’s what happened to a Wayne County man last month when he won the Lotto 47 jackpot by purchasing an online ticket from the Michigan Lottery.

It was the second-largest prize ever won online at MichiganLottery.com and just the latest prize of over $1 million in the state for 2022.

Michigan Lotto 47 jackpot winner stunned to see prize

This latest jackpot winner chose to remain anonymous, but matched the winning Lotto 47 numbers that were drawn Sept. 28.

After purchasing more than a dozen online tickets, the winner woke up to found out he won, but he wasn’t sure how much until he checked his account.

“I like playing online and had about $280 in my account from a recent win,” said the 69-year-old player. “I hadn’t played the Lotto 47 game in a while, so I decided to buy 15 tickets. The next day, I was going through my email and had one from the Lottery that said I won a prize, but it didn’t say how much. I logged in to my online account, and when I saw I hit the jackpot my head started spinning and it hasn’t stopped!”

The winner elected to receive his prize as a one-time lump sump payment of $3.8 million. The other option was 30 annuity payments for the full amount.

“We certainly weren’t struggling financially, but winning this jackpot means we won’t have to worry about money in our retirement,” the player said.

Sixth $1 million Lotto 47 prize of 2022

This recent Lotto 47 prize is the second-largest prize won online at the Michigan Lottery.

In February and March of 2021, two players each won $1,000 a day for life playing Lucky for Life online. Both players opted for a one-time lump sum of $5.75 million.

The recent win marks the sixth time the Lotto 47 jackpot has been won in 2022.

Michigan Lottery adding to big 2022

The Michigan Lottery continues to pay out big numbers in 2022 after putting up a record 2021.

Last fiscal year, the Michigan Lottery made a record-setting $1.419 billion contribution to the Michigan School Aid Fund. That marked the third consecutive year the lottery had contributed at least $1 billion to the fund.

Recently, the Michigan Lottery announced that former Detroit Piston John Salley would be partnering with them for The Big Spin television show.

A total of 20 lucky “losers” of The Big Spin scratch game will be randomly drawn to take a spin of the Big Wheel. Spinners can win anywhere from $100,000-2 million. Salley will host the program on local television.

For 2022, a total of 36 prizes of $1 million or more have been given out by the Michigan Lottery. Dozens more remain just from Michigan’s scratch ticket games.
