UPDATE: PokerStars Michigan is back up and running Tuesday afternoon after being down for unplanned maintenance since Friday.

The organization announced Friday on its Twitter account that the site was down for unplanned maintenance, and all tournaments were canceled until 10 a.m. Monday. The company has said the downtime was not because of a data breach.

Fox Bet, which is also a Stars Group brand, was also down through Monday, but was back up and running Tuesday morning.

This is the first days-long outage in Michigan’s more than 1-year-old regulated online poker industry. PokerStars is the leading brand for online poker in Michigan.

The outage was also affecting New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Why is PokerStars Michigan down?

The outage was first reported Friday afternoon, but there have been no details released by PokerStars other than stating the maintenance is unscheduled.

Sunday is the biggest day of the week at PokerStars. They offer thousands of dollars in guaranteed prize pools in Sunday majors named after the day of the week called:

  • Sunday Warm-up
  • Sunday Storm
  • Special
  • High Roller
  • Supersonic

Online Poker options in Michigan

Michigan online poker players have one other option: BetMGM Poker.

Fox Bet also down (Update: It’s back up)

Fox Bet was also down through Monday, but was working Tuesday morning.

Michigan online sports bettors have several other options, but Fox Bet missed out on a big day of college basketball, including the University of Michigan at No. 4 Purdue. The Super Bowl is also a week away, and the 2022 Winter Olympics have begun in Beijing.

Fox Bet has struggled to gain as much foothold as might’ve been expected for such a national brand, and one that it trumpeted on the network that carries Detroit Lions games most weeks.

In the most recent monthly numbers, Fox Bet was eighth among Michigan sportsbooks with an online handle of just under $5.6 million. That’s more than $20 million behind PointsBet Sportsbook MI which was in sixth, and well behind industry leaders such as FanDuel Sportsbook MI, DraftKings Sportsbook MI and BetMGM Michigan which easily cleared $100 million in the month.
