Gun Lake Casino in Wayland has been named Best Casino by Revue Magazine in its annual Best of the West readers’ poll. Gun Lake is owned by the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians, and operated by its subsidiary MPM Enterprises, LLC.

The eighth annual Best of the West issue of Revue Magazine, which has a reported circulation near 20,000 monthly, polled its’ readers in the Arts & Attractions category. That’s where Gun Lake Casino stood out as the choice of the southwestern region of Michigan as a casino.

FireKeepers, Little River also receive mention

This is the third consecutive year that Gun Lake Casino has ranked as the No. 1 casino in the survey by Revue Magazine, which is published Serendipity Media in Grand Rapids.

Firekeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek and Little River Casino Resort in Manistee were named as honorable mention in the “Best of the West” casino category.

The Best of the West issue was published in August and can be found for free at many locations around the Grand Rapids area.

$350 Million Gun Lake renovation project nears final phase

In May of 2022, Gun Lake broke ground on a $350 million renovation project that includes a 252-room hotel resort, an aquadome, and expansive outdoor gardens and entertainment stages. Once the project, which is said to be “in phase 5” by Gun Lake spokespeople, is completed, the facility will be one of the largest and most modern in Michigan. It will have more hotel rooms than any casino in the state outside of Detroit.

Gun Lake Casino is located only 15 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids, the second-largest city in Michigan, and only a few minutes from Kalamazoo, just off US 131.

The gaming floor boasts just over 2,500 state-of-the-art slot machines, nearly 50 gaming tables, keno, and a retail sportsbook called 131 Sportsbook, which also has an app available for Android and iPhone users.

Gun Lake currently has five restaurants, with two more expected when the renovation is completed in early 2024. The buffet at Harvest Buffet is considered one of the best casino buffets in the region. Prices for the buffet start at $17.99 up to $54.99 for crab leg offerings.

The new Gun Lake Casino resort and hotel building will also have a 32,000-square foot Indoor Pool Complex with luscious live palm trees, tropical flora, and a settled temperature of 80 degrees. With two swimming pools, the swimming area will be a fully enclosed beautiful glass atrium that allows natural daylight in. At night, concert lighting and live entertainment at an adjacent night club will provide options for visitors.
