In an online casino industry that is booming in Michigan, one operator has set itself apart from the rest.
While many of the 15 online casino platforms can tout being successful, only one can tout being the clear leader in the industry in Michigan.

With more than double the revenue of its nearest competitor, BetMGM has put together a winning recipe that no other Michigan online casino has been able to replicate.
So, what is the secret ingredient that BetMGM is hiding?
It’s not really as complex as you might think.
How dominant has BetMGM Michigan been?
BetMGM Michigan has been the runaway leader in online casino revenue in the state. The Michigan gambling stats for BetMGM are pretty eye-opening.
Since launch in January of 2021, BetMGM has recorded $1.26 billion in revenue through May of 2023. That accounts for 36.3% of the state’s market share. The nearest competitor is FanDuel, which sits at $597 million in revenue.
In every month since April 2021 BetMGM has drawn at least $18 million more in revenue than its nearest competitor.
BetMGM is on a run of 21 consecutive months with at least $40 million in monthly online casino revenue. Four of the 15 online operators haven’t hit $40 million in lifetime online casino revenue. No other online casino operator in Michigan has ever hit $40 million in a month.
Why is BetMGM outpacing other Michigan online casinos?
The reasons why BetMGM Michigan has been able to run past the Michigan online casino competition is pretty cut and dry.
Established upon launch
BetMGM Michigan was as prepared as any operator to launch on Jan. 22, 2021. That was the day that Michigan waved the green flag on online gambling, both for online casinos and online sportsbooks.
Upon launch, BetMGM offered a strong overall gaming library and one of the top sign-up bonuses at the time.
BetMGM offered a sign-up bonus with $25 free and up to $1,000 deposit match.
The association to the MGM Grand Detroit also allowed the BetMGM name to be well established prior to launch. Compared to MotorCity Casino partnering with FanDuel and Hollywood Casino at Greektown partnering with Barstool, it gave BetMGM a leg up in name recognition as an online operator.
Largest gaming library
Just as no other Michigan online casino has been able to keep up with BetMGM’s revenue, the same can be said for its game count.
BetMGM currently offers more than 1,100 games in total. Only BetRivers Casino also offers at least 1,000 games. Both FanDuel (586) and DraftKings (653) are nearly doubled by BetMGM in game offerings.
Not only is BetMGM leading the overall game count, but it also leads the way in slot games, exclusive games, jackpot games and table games offered.
BetMGM poker
BetMGM also is one of the few casinos that also offers online poker in Michigan.
Just PokerStars and Caesars (WSOP) also have online poker as part of their online casinos. Online poker revenue is added to the overall online casino revenue totals each month in Michigan.
With poker only available through three operators, that gives BetMGM a big boost over other top casino competitors that don’t offer the game.
We’ve seen that interstate poker has aided PokerStars in its 2023 revenue. As BetMGM is able to earn regulation for interstate play, it will only further add to its already staggering revenue totals.
Promotional offerings
Many online casinos in Michigan have still struggled to find the right balance for player promotions.
While a regular part of most sportsbooks, online casino promotions can be hard to come by.
BetMGM has found a way to navigate that rocky road with relative ease.
Through about two-and-a-half years, BetMGM has offered the most promotional dollars to their customers. That’s to the tune of $123 million, more than double the nearest competitor.
BetMGM has also done a great job of utilizing cross promotions.
Whether it be earning a free sports bet by playing a certain slot, or earning a casino credit by betting on a particular sporting event, BetMGM makes the most out of its online gambling platform.
Big payouts
Let’s face it, people wouldn’t be using BetMGM Michigan if they weren’t winning on it.
BetMGM has built up its customer base through having some of the top jackpots we see yearly in Michigan.
Just this week, BetMGM announced it has already awarded $75 million in progressive jackpots during the first half of 2023 for the few states that have legal online casinos. That includes a top prize of $2.8 million to a lucky New Jersey player.
In Michigan alone, BetMGM has given out six progressive jackpots over $500,000 in winnings for this year.
Last year saw BetMGM award $104 million in progressive jackpots. The online platform is well ahead of pace to shatter that record in 2023.
