Michigan online casinos put up a top-5 all-time revenue month in May of 2023, recording $150.6 million.
While the total is a 5.5% drop from April 2023’s $159.4 million, it’s an 18% jump from May 2022’s $127.4 million.
May’s total pushes Michigan’s all-time online casino revenue to just under $3.5 billion. It also leaves the lifetime tax revenue total dollars just below $900 million.
“Online casinos in Michigan again saw massive year-over-year growth in May, as revenue was up 18% from 2022,” said PlayMichigan lead analyst Paul Costanzo. “As we’ve seen in the past, when the weather gets warmer in Michigan and people start enjoying the outdoors, online gambling numbers start to go down. But the $150.6 million is still among the top 5 in state history.”

Three takeaways from May Michigan online casino report
No records for any of Michigan’s 15 online casinos
It’s been a while since we have been able to say that not one single Michigan online casino operator had a record revenue total in a given month.
But, that is the case in May, with none of the 15 setting a revenue record. In fact, none of the 15 even posted a best for 2023.
That’s not a negative toward May in particular, just a sign of how strong the year has been for the online casinos.
Just three online casinos tallied their second strongest revenue month of 2023. Those were BetRivers Casino ($8.7 million), Golden Nugget Casino ($7 million) and Four Winds iCasino ($3.7 million).
Comparatively, three had their lowest revenue of 2023 thus far. Those were BetMGM Michigan ($47.4 million), betParx Casino ($1.7 million) and FireKeepers iCasino ($1.6 million).
Michigan online casino tax revenue just under $900 million
Michigan’s lifetime online casino tax revenue is nearing another big milestone.
With the $39.8 million generated in May, the state now sits at $899,119,423 in tax revenue generated through online casinos.
As of this writing, that means the state has well surpassed $900 million and is now turning its focus to the $1 billion mark.
It’s unlikely that June and July will combine to generate $100 million in tax revenue on its own. The largest single month of tax revenue was $44.6 million in March. Look for August of this year to be the lucky month to get Michigan past the $1 billion milestone.
Collectively, Michigan’s gambling industry is creating nearly $2 billion in annual tax revenue for the state.
Four Winds moving up Michigan OC revenue ladder
Only three Michigan casinos have opted for their own name brand online casino.
One of them is Four Winds Casino.
While some could consider it a risky strategy, the Southeastern Michigan casino has found its stride with online gaming.
Four Winds put up its second-best month of revenue ever in May at just under $3.7 million. It also landed eighth in the operator revenue race for the month for only the second time.
In May, Four Winds jumped ahead of other big operators like Barstool ($3.3 million) and PokerStars ($3 million).
Four Winds sits at $73.4 million in lifetime online casino revenue, which lands 10th over Michigan’s history.
However, it’s making some ground on PokerStars ($86.2 million) for ninth, while Barstool ($112.7 million) is much further up in the eighth spot.
