Hard Rock welcome bonus — the fine print!
Here are the steps to take to claim the Hard Rock Sportsbook welcome bonus:
- Deposit at least $100 into your account.
- Opt in to the bonus bet offer via the Hard Rock promotions page.
- Place a wager of $100 within seven days of opting in to the promotion.
- If your bet wins, everything stays the same. You collect your winnings and the offer ends. If your bet loses, Hard Rock will issue a refund.
One of the things that sets Hard Rock’s bonus bet offer apart is that it’s one of the rare instances where you actually get a refund in cash.
Can I trust Hard Rock Sportsbook?
Yes, Hard Rock is a prominent name in the gambling industry, and you can feel confident signing up and betting there. Furthermore, the Michigan Gaming Control Board vets all sportsbooks in the state. The board will not grant Hard Rock a sport wagering license if it has any concerns with it.
If you have any questions or worries about Hard Rock, or any other Michigan sportsbook, you can call the MGCB at 313-456-4100 or submit a complaint via the MGCB website.
Sports betting laws in Michigan
You must be physically in Michigan when placing any bets, and you also must be 21 or older to legally bet at licensed sportsbooks. Hard Rock uses geolocation technology to track your location every time you log into your account via the app or website. As for your age, when you open your account, Hard Rock will use some of the information you supply for confirmation.
Finally, you can bet at Hard Rock Sportsbook on professional and college teams that are based in Michigan. Live betting and individual prop betting for NCAA events, however, is not legal in the state.
Getting started at Hard Rock Sportsbook
Signing up at Hard Rock is a trouble-free process that you can accomplish via computer, tablet or smartphone. It should take five minutes, max. To start, head to the Hard Rock Sportsbook site and click “Create new account.” You’ll need to enter the following personal details:
- Name
- Home address
- Phone number
- Birthdate
- Final four digits of your Social Security number
To help make your account more secure, you’ll select a security question and provide an answer. The only thing left is checking a box that states you’re at least 21 and another accepting Hard Rock’s terms and conditions. Once you do that and submit the form, your account will be operational.
How do I download the Hard Rock app?
Hard Rock’s sportsbook app is available for Android and Apple devices. To download it, head to the sportsbook website and scroll to the bottom of the page, where you will see two app download buttons. Click either “Download on the App Store” or “Get it on Android” and then follow the specific prompts for your gadget.
Where do I find Hard Rock promotions?
You can access Hard Rock Sportsbook’s promotions page in two ways. If you’re on the Hard Rock site, there is a promotions tab located along the left side of the screen. On the app, you’ll see a megaphone icon in the lower right corner. Clicking either of these will take you to the promos page.
At this time, the only sportsbook promotion at Hard Rock is the bonus bet offer discussed above. There are a handful of promos for Hard Rock’s online casino in Michigan, but it’s just the bonus bet that is valid for sports. Check back to see if that changes, however.
Why should I choose the Hard Rock Sportsbook app?
Here are some of Hard Rock’s main strengths:
- Welcome bonus bet: You’ll see bonus bet offers all the time at online sportsbooks, but rarely are they truly this good. The majority of the time, you’ll receive a bonus bet if your wager loses — a second bite at the apple, in other words. But Hard Rock issues the refund in cash, meaning you really are risking nothing.
- Ability to bet on Michigan teams: At Hard Rock you can bet on the Detroit Pistons, Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings. Or, if you’re more into college sports, the Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans and some smaller schools are readily available markets, too.
- Rewards program: Although Hard Rock’s rewards program isn’t as good as some at other sportsbooks, it’s still loads better than books that don’t have loyalty programs. Just keep in mind that you will need to bet at least $10,000 to get a comped room at a Hard Rock Hotel.
What won’t I like about the Hard Rock Sportsbook app?
Hard Rock does fall short in a few areas. Here are a couple to be aware of before you sign up:
- Dual sportsbook and casino app: This is more about personal preference, but we’re just not fans of combo sportsbook-casino apps. It just feels as if the sportsbook app would be much better if it was individually focused.
- Lack of withdrawal options: Currently, your only choices for cashing out at Hard Rock are via an online bank transfer or an e-check. If PayPal or Skrill were also available for withdrawals, that would be a huge step in the right direction.
What kind of bets can I make at Hard Rock?
At Hard Rock, you can place spread, total, moneyline, prop and futures bets. Additionally, you can combine bets to create parlays and round robins. You also can bet on games as they happen, thanks to live betting. Here is how lines will appear at Hard Rock and how each wager works:
Spread | Total | Moneyline | |
---|---|---|---|
Detroit Lions | +7.5 (-110) | Over 46 (-110) | +280 |
Chicago Bears | -7.5 (-110) | Under 46 (-110) | -365 |
Spread, total and moneyline betting
These are the three most common sports bets. For spread betting, the team you bet on needs to win by more than the spread, if the number is negative. So let’s say, for example, that the Chicago Bears are favored by 7.5 points with a game total of 46. So the Bears are -7.5 points in that game, the Lions are +7.5. points and the over/under is 46.
For a bet on the Bears to cash, Chicago needs to win by more than 7.5 points. For any bet figure listed as a positive number, your team needs to avoid losing by more than that number. So if the Lions lose by seven points or less — or win the game — your spread bet on Detroit would win.
Then you have totals, which are wagers on the combined score. In this example, if the teams combine for 45 points or fewer, you would win if you bet on the under. If the total ends at 47 or more, bets on the over would win. And if the total is exactly 46 points, bets would push and you would get your money back.
Moneyline bets are wagers on which team will win. The odds tell you how much of a profit you’ll make on winning bets. A Detroit moneyline of +280 means that if you were to bet $100 and the Lions won, you would make a profit of $280. A Chicago moneyline of -365 means you would need to bet $365 to make a profit of $100, assuming the Bears win the game.
Oftentimes, odds around -110 are listed for the spread and total, meaning you would need to bet either $110 to win $100 or $11 to win $10, etc.
Prop betting
Prop bets are wagers on whether certain events will occur during a contest. You can place props for which team will score more points in the first half, whether a certain player will score the game’s first touchdown or how many receiving yards a player will finish the game with, for example.
Winning parlays and round robins
Parlays and round robins are types of combo wagers, meaning you combine multiple bets into one, but how you win them is different.
With parlay bets, the benefit is that they can offer a large increase to your potential winnings. The drawback is that you bet cashes only if all your selections are correct. With round robins, you can still win some money even if you don’t get all your picks correct, though you win more if you run the table.
Making futures bets at Hard Rock
You can bet on a team to win a championship prior to the season starting or as it is playing out. Such wagers are an example of futures bets. You can find all the available futures at Hard Rock by selecting a sport and then choosing the futures option near the top of the screen. For sports such as the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL, you also will find futures for which team will win its conference, league or division, as well as for individual player awards.
Live betting on the Hard Rock app
By clicking on the “Live” button with a green circle around it, you can see all the live betting options available at Hard Rock at any time.
All the standard rules for betting apply for live betting as well. The only real difference is that odds change much faster and by much larger margins when it comes to live betting. If the Red Wings are underdogs against the Chicago Blackhawks, for example, but Detroit scores two early goals, you’ll see a shift in the odds.
Can I bet on the Detroit Pistons at Hard Rock?
Yes, you can bet on the Pistons, as well as every other National Basketball Association team at Hard Rock. Although Hard Rock does not offer quite as many separate betting options as you’ll find at some other online oddsmakers, there still are a few to check out for betting on the NBA:
- Race to …: For this bet, you are just wagering on which team will reach a certain point total first. For basketball, the totals usually start at 20 points. If they get high enough, usually 80 or above, you’ll also have the option of choosing “Neither” if you don’t believe either team will reach 80 points.
- Player point, rebound and assist totals: These bets work just like totals. Hard Rock supplies a number, and you bet on whether you think a certain player will score more or fewer points than that number.
- Even/odd: Bet on whether the final score of a game will be even or odd. And despite what you might read in some places, the odds really are 50/50.
- Quarter and half bets: Instead of just betting on what the final result will be, you can now bet on which team will win each quarter and/or half. You’ll find spread, total and moneyline bets available for these options at Hard Rock.

That allows you to select a period of either three, seven, 14 or 21 days, or one month. Once you decide on one of these options, there is no turning back. But you will be able to make withdrawals during those periods.
Can I bet with Hard Rock Sportsbook in person?
No, Hard Rock does not currently have a retail sportsbook in Michigan. If it opens one in the future, we will update this section.
How does Hard Rock compare with other Michigan sportsbooks?
Although Hard Rock falls short of some of the bigger, more established sportsbooks in Michigan, such as BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, PointsBet and BetRivers, we still believe it is worth joining if the time comes.
The biggest reason we say this is because of Hard Rock’s bonus bet for newcomers. Since you get your money back in cash, you can use the refund as you wish, making it a true bonus offer.
Besides, it can be helpful to have a few online sportsbook accounts to let you shop for the best odds for any games you want to bet on.

No, you do not need to live in Michigan. but you do need to be in Michigan when you place a bet. Hard Rock uses geolocation software to check your location, and you will not be able to bet if you are outside Michigan state lines.

Because if you lose, the refund will be in cash. Most other books with similar offers refund you with a bonus bet. With a bonus bet, you have to wager it again for a chance at any value, and even if you win, you do not receive the value of the bonus bet back, just the winnings.

How does the Hard Rock sports betting app compare to what BetMGM offers?
The biggest difference is that Hard Rock’s app is a combination online sportsbook and casino, while BetMGM’s is just a sportsbook. The BetMGM app is slightly easier to navigate and also slightly faster than Hard Rock’s. Both apps are more than sufficient when it comes to being able to bet on sports with ease, though.
How do the odds boosts at Hard Rock compare to DraftKings?
There is no comparison at this time, because DraftKings has daily odds boosts and Hard Rock does not.
