Michigan Approves Academy Awards Betting; DraftKings, PointsBet Post Oscars Odds

Written By Matt Schoch on April 12, 2021

The Michigan Gaming Control Board has approved wagering on the Academy Awards. Oscars betting in Michigan now makes for three US states to allow to bet on the winners.

DraftKings first posted Oscars odds for the April 25 show, which likely won’t draw the amount of attention of prior years because of the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on the entertainment industry. There are less than two weeks left to wager before the 93rd Academy Awards, which will air at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

PointsBet posted Oscars odds too, for the best picture category by the close of business Monday.

The Oscars were previously available for wagers in New Jersey and Indiana. New Jersey was the first state to approve legal Academy Awards wagering in 2019, and Indiana added Oscars betting last year. As recently as last week, it was appearing that Michigan was not going to be able to approve odds for the telecast in time for the show.

But this is a welcome plot twist.

For the third consecutive year, there will be no host for the Oscars telecast. Director Steven Soderbergh will produce the show.
