Bay Mills Resort & Casino
Owned and operated by the Bay Mills Indian Community, Bay Mills Resort & Casino is located in Brimley, Michigan, on the shores of Lake Superior’s Waiska Bay.
A fixture in the area since 1995, Bay Mills features 17,000 square feet of gaming space with around 600 slots and a dozen table games. Bills legalizing sports betting and online gambling were signed into law in 2019, and soon after, the Bay Mills Indian Community entered into an agreement with DraftKings for online sports wagering and iCasino, both of which launched in January 2021. The digital sports giant also opened a permanent retail sportsbook at Bay Mills on Nov. 6, 2022.
Though it is one of the smaller Michigan retail casinos, Bay Mills Resort & Casino still offers a lot to those seeking a fun, relaxing destination in Michigan’s Eastern Upper Peninsula.

The renovations also included adding indoor and outdoor saunas and hot tubs, a fitness center, a nail salon, an arcade, additional conference meeting space, and more dining options. Outside, guests will also find fishing piers, gardens, gazebos, and marina upgrades.

Bay Mills Resort & Casino history
The Bay Mills Indian Community opened its first gaming facility, originally called Bay Mills Blackjack Casino, on July 4, 1984. It was the first US gaming facility owned by a Native American tribe to offer slots and blackjack in addition to bingo, and it was later renamed Kings Club Casino.
Bay Mills Resort & Casino, a larger property, then opened about two miles away in November 1995. Kings Club Casino closed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 and never reopened. It was demolished in 2025 to make way for retail space and apartments.
DraftKings inked a deal with the Bay Mills Indian Community in June 2020, bringing a huge sports betting name to a rather remote part of Michigan. Bay Mills’ retail and online sports wagering operations are conducted through its DraftKings partnership and therefore fall under the licensing authority of the Michigan Gaming Control Board, even though the on-site gaming operates under a tribal-state gaming compact.
Bay Mills Resort & Casino completed a nearly $90 million expansion in January 2026, adding 135 new guest rooms, a spa, an indoor pool, and other amenities. The project marked the largest investment in the property since it opened.

What to know before visiting Bay Mills Resort & Casino
With a freshly expanded hotel, the Najii Kii Spa, and one of the more remote settings among Michigan properties, Bay Mills Resort & Casino offers a quieter, resort-style alternative to the state’s larger commercial properties. Its smaller-than-average gaming floor won’t compete with Detroit’s larger venues in terms of scale, but the waterfront setting, golf course, and updated amenities make it a worthwhile stop for anyone already exploring the Upper Peninsula. And with DraftKings anchoring both the retail book and its statewide online presence, Bay Mills remains a small but steady name in Michigan’s gambling market.
