As the Detroit Tigers prepare for their Opening Day at Comerica Park on Thursday, the Michigan Lottery has announced a new series of games featuring the Motor City’s baseball team.
Debuting on Tuesday, four new gaming options were unveiled for retail and online lottery players.
The launch of these games is the first time in 10 years that the Michigan Lottery has offered a game featuring the Detroit Tigers. Michigan Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli commented on the new partnership in a press release:
“With the Detroit Tigers coming off an incredible playoff run, I’m excited for the baseball season in the Motor City. To add to the excitement, fans throughout the state will have a chance to win big prizes on a Tigers themed instant game, online digital game, Pull Tabs game, and Charitable Pull Tabs ticket!”

What Tigers games are available
Tuesday marked the first day four new retail and online lottery gaming options are available featuring the Detroit Tigers.
They include:
- Instant Ticket: A $5 instant game with more than $28.5 million in prizes, including a top prize of $500,000.
- Pull Tabs: A $1 pull tab game that include $2.1 million in prizes, with a top prize of $6,000.
- Online Instant: An online instant game starting at $0.20 per ticket, and can go up to $25 per ticket. Top prizes for the game are up to $250,000.
- Charitable Pull Tabs: Available for non-profits like veterans and fraternal clubs. Top prizes of $300 in each box sold.
Online instant touches all the bases
Tigers Home Run is the online instant offering from the Michigan Lottery.
The games look a bit like online slot machines you might see at an online casino. However, it’s important to note that they function more like scratch-off tickets under the hood. The outcome of each game is determined at the moment you buy each “ticket.” The visuals on-screen are just an animated equivalent of the symbols printed on a scratch ticket. That is to say, they’re just a more fun way of telling you whether you won or not.
The game is a 3×5 grid of symbols that you might see at a Detroit Tigers game. That includes helmets, uniforms, merchandise, and classic ballpark food like burgers and hot dogs.
Racking up symbols wins you prizes and each win disappears from the grid and brings in new symbols, allowing for multiple wins in each ticket purchase.
If you get three or more Home Run symbols, you win a guaranteed prize indicated on the left side of the grid. The prizes vary based on ticket price.
If you get three Bonus Home Plate symbols, you go to the bonus feature portion of the game. That is nine free “reveals,” which are essentially spins. There, each Home Run symbol can elevate your prize rate once you collect nine. Any additional Home Plate symbols during the bonus round add an additional “reveal.”
I played the demo version and enjoyed hearing “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” to start the experience on an authentic note. The game works quickly and efficiently. Certainly the highlight was reaching the Bonus stage, which provided a lot of winning moments.
