One lucky player at MGM Grand Detroit set a record for hitting the largest jackpot in the 25-year history of the property. The customer struck a jackpot worth nearly $1.3 million on Thursday.
MGM Grand Detroit is notorious for generous jackpots, awarding $268.2 million in prize money in 2024. There should be plenty of big winners with six weeks left to go in the year, and not just in the retail casino space.
One of those upcoming winners is likely to be some lucky online gambler at DraftKings Casino. Its DraftKings Progressive is now at nearly $7.3 million and should be over $8 million by Christmas if it hasn’t gone off in the meantime.
Customer breaks record on Dragon Link slot
The previous jackpot record has stood for more than 16 years when a lucky player hit for $1.1 million in July 2008. Thursday’s win will certainly go down in the history books for the casino, not to mention the player’s, whose life has surely been changed by the win.

On pace to hand out $300 million this year
The Detroit property has distributed $268.2 million in jackpots in 2024. Thursday represented the 326th day of the year, which means MGM Grand Detroit averages $822,566 in jackpots per day.
Since there are 366 days in 2024, that puts the casino on pace for $301.1 million of prize money handed out to customers this year. In November alone, customers have already taken home $18 million of jackpots through 21 days.
MGM Grand Detroit is the top commercial property in the city. It offers nearly 2,500 slots for customers to try their luck on. According to its website, Jackpot Carnival Buffalo is another popular slot at the casino.
The facility continues to keep its slot library fresh. It did so by recently adding Dragon Trio and Huff N’ Even More Puff.
Whitney Houston slots are also coming soon to MGM Grand Detroit. Those games have been added to casinos in Pennsylvania and Michigan, which has generated great feedback.
