Ford Field and Comerica Park included in campaign

Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, and Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers, are among 17 professional sports venues participating in the campaign.

GameSense messages will appear on LED ribbon boards and scoreboards during pregame activities. The campaign includes selected NFL stadiums and Major League Baseball ballparks around the country.

The British Columbia Lottery Corporation developed GameSense and licensed the program to MGM Resorts in 2017. It is intended to help customers understand how gambling works and keep their activity within planned time and spending limits.

BetMGM Sportsbook will also display reminders encouraging customers to take a time-out, with QR codes linking to responsible gambling information and support resources. Similar messaging will appear at retail sportsbooks and in the MGM Grand Live Dealer studio.

The operator plans to send targeted emails about responsible play to customers during September, said BetMGM Chief Compliance Officer Rhea Loney.

“Player protection is a priority every day at BetMGM, and RGEM gives us an opportunity to highlight those efforts.”

MGM Resorts and BetMGM have certified more than 3,000 employees in over 45 departments as GameSense Advisors. Those employees are trained to discuss responsible gambling and direct customers to appropriate resources.

Funding will support research and gambling services

Part of the $320,000 commitment will support work by the International Center for Responsible Gaming.

The companies are also expanding their sponsorship of state problem gambling councils, including support for the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline. The announcement did not identify the councils receiving money or disclose how the contribution will be divided.

Another portion will go to the Evive Foundation, which connects people affected by gambling with evidence-based digital resources and peer support.

BetMGM limits apply across state lines

BetMGM customers can set deposit, loss, and session limits through the Responsible Gaming section of their account settings. A time-out option is available for players who want to block themselves from gambling temporarily.

The operator’s consolidated account system means an activated limit applies in every state where the customer uses BetMGM. Deposits made in multiple states, for example, count toward the same deposit limit.

A time-out started in Michigan will also restrict access to BetMGM in other states. These tools apply specifically to BetMGM, while Michigan’s Responsible Gaming Database covers all licensed online gambling operators in the state.

Michigan database open to gamblers

Players can use Michigan’s Responsible Gaming Database to exclude themselves from regulated online casino gambling, online sports betting, or both.

Applicants can choose a one-year or five-year term. An exclusion cannot be ended early, and the person is removed from the database automatically when the selected term expires.

Applications can be completed at a Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) office. A person can also submit a completed and notarized application by email or mail. The MGCB says placement in the database can take up to 45 days.

More information about Michigan’s self-exclusion options is available through PlayMichigan’s responsible gambling guide or by calling the MGCB Responsible Gaming Section at 1-888-223-3044

Michigan’s confidential Problem Gambling Helpline is available around the clock at 1-800-270-7117. Counselors can provide immediate assistance and referrals to treatment providers or support groups.
