Michigan State Police executed a search warrant of the Michigan Lottery office in Livonia last week.
Authorities noted the investigation was referred by the state Michigan Lottery.
Police did not provide any more information about the investigation, according to CBS News Detroit.
Reason for investigation unknown
An official with the Michigan Lottery confirmed with PlayMichigan Monday morning that its office alerted police.
“The Michigan Lottery is committed to integrity and transparency. This investigation was initiated by the Lottery and is in no way connected to the integrity of Lottery games.
“The Lottery will continue to partner with the Michigan State Police in their ongoing investigation.”
Michigan’s strict oversight
While the offices of the Michigan Lottery are under investigation, the gambling industry as a whole is aggressive in maintaining its integrity.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board has sent several cease-and-desist letters to illegal gambling platforms operating within the state. In April, it chased away SportsBetting.ag and BetOnline.ag, two well-known offshore sportsbooks.
Earlier this month, the board issued cease-and-desist letters to five illegal gambling operators that were offering slots and sports betting markets.
