MotorCity Casino Hotel has opened two floors of newly renovated guestrooms, marking the first completed phase of a $65 million renovation initiative underway at the Detroit property.
The accommodations are now available to book at MotorCity Casino Hotel. More floors will open gradually as construction progresses, with work on all 400 guestrooms and suites expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
The hotel renovations are part of MotorCity’s multi-year Elevate the Escape initiative, which includes changes throughout the property.
Renovated rooms feature mini-suite layouts
The first phase gives guests a choice of three renovated room types, including the Executive King, Executive Two Queen, and Executive Suite.
The renovated rooms retain their existing footprint but have been reorganized into what the property calls functional mini-suites. Each has separate areas for working and relaxing, along with built-in banquette seating, flexible work surfaces, integrated technology, and updated lighting.
The renovation was not limited to the guestrooms, with work also completed in the corridors and elevator lobbies on both renovated floors. Those areas feature custom artwork by Detroit artist Rick Vian, while the guestrooms continue to offer views of the Detroit skyline.
MotorCity worked with Gensler Detroit on the redesign, which incorporates wood tones, natural textures, and layered lighting throughout the guestrooms.
“These guestrooms bring a new level of comfort, design, and functionality to the hotel experience at MotorCity,” said Fred Isaacs, the property’s vice president of hotel operations.
Casino and dining upgrades are also underway
MotorCity announced Elevate the Escape in April. Along with renovating the hotel, the initiative incorporates previously completed improvements to the conference center and several additions elsewhere on the property.
Revel Steak and Red Lantern were already open when the investment was announced. MotorCity had also updated the offerings at Grand River Deli & Burgers and Little Caesars, refreshed its high-limit gaming section, and expanded its VIP dining area.
Later that month, the property opened The Wagner, an expanded bar and lounge in the center of the gaming floor. The casino has also added a smoking slot area on the first floor.
The next stages of the initiative include opening a new cafe in the food court, making changes to casino entrances, and installing updated finishes and lighting throughout the casino.
MotorCity also plans to introduce upgraded benefits through Club Metro, its casino loyalty program.
Hotel renovation scheduled for completion in 2027
MotorCity has not provided a schedule for the remaining hotel floors. Renovated guestrooms and suites will become available in stages as work continues through the end of next year.
Timelines have also not been announced for the planned casino and Club Metro updates. MotorCity said future announcements will provide more details about the casino and loyalty program changes as individual projects move closer to completion.
Beyond the 400-room hotel, the property includes a casino floor, FanDuel Sportsbook, D.Tour Spa, Sound Board concert venue, and more than 67,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
The 17-story hotel opened in 2007 as part of a previous $300 million expansion and includes 33 suites. MotorCity is the only one of Detroit’s three commercial casinos that is locally owned and operated.
