DraftKings set a record on Wednesday when a Michigan player struck a jackpot for $22.4 million. It’s the largest casino-games prize an operator has paid out to a customer in US history.
DraftKings Casino set the previous record in February, when a customer hit a progressive jackpot for $9.28 million. It has not been hit since then, which is why the pot rose all the way to $22.4 million.
Progressive jackpots have been a huge part of the Michigan online casino industry, especially for DraftKings.
Details on largest ever prize
All it took was a 20-cent bet on the Huff N’ Even More Puff, which triggered the largest casino jackpot of all-time in the US.
When the last jackpot was hit in February, it reset back to $5.7 million. That’s life-changing money in itself. However, the Michigan player woke up north of $22 million richer on Wednesday.
Christian Bogstrand, executive VP and GM of iGaming at DraftKings, congratulated the winner in an email to PlayMichigan.
“Setting another record for the largest US online casino jackpot is a major moment – and it speaks to the incredible experiences we’re creating for our customers.
“Topping $22 million is a milestone we’re proud of, and it reinforces our commitment to delivering a best-in-class gaming experience. Congrats to the winner!”
There are a certain amount of slots that contribute to the total of the jackpot. It is unclear whether all slots are eligible.
Despite that, the jackpot reached $14 million in July. It climbed all the way to the winner’s total on Wednesday.
A DraftKings spokesperson told PlayMichigan in July that, “I’m not sure any other operators offer this to customers, so it’s a differentiator.”
Judging that the jackpot is a US record, it’s safe to say that no other operator is offering prizes worth that much.
