Despite July being the slowest season of the sports calendar, Michigan sportsbooks crossed two important milestones last month.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board reported that operators produced $288.5 million in handle and $35.1 million in revenue last month, both significant year-over-year increases.
That brought lifetime handle to $22.1 billion and revenue to $2 billion for Michigan sportsbooks.
July sports betting by the numbers

DraftKings closes in
FanDuel Sportsbook has been the market leader in handle and revenue in Michigan. However, it ceded share to its rival in July.
FanDuel recorded $92.3 million in handle; DraftKings Sportsbook tallied $88.9 million.
FanDuel’s market share has dropped each of the last three months:
- 36% in May
- 34.1% in June
- 32% in July
DraftKings, meanwhile, has increased its share of the market, from 27.4% in May to 30.8% in July.
Revenue, handle up from July 2024
The market made considerable year-over-year improvements in July.
Handle and revenue both increased last month compared to a year ago, 12.3% and 21.0%, respectively. As expected, both decreased from June, handle by 7% and revenue by 22.5%.
Sportsbooks enjoyed a 12.2% hold rate in July. So far in 2025, average operator hold is 11.9%.
Caesars tops ESPN Bet for second time
For the second time in 2025, Caesars Sportsbook finished ahead of ESPN Bet in handle. The first time came in April.
Eyes have been on ESPN Bet’s market share as ESPN partner Penn Entertainment has a three-year opt-out clause, which occurs in 2026.
ESPN Bet’s market share in Michigan has been inconsistent all year, with its lowest share occurring last month:
- January: 5.6%
- February: 5.3%
- March: 5.9%
- April: 5.7%
- May: 4.9%
- June: 5.2%
- July: 4.5%
Football season could make or break the partnership.
