The FIFA World Cup brought massive excitement with the US hosting the biggest tournament in the world. That was reflected in sports wagering statistics in June.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board reported that Michigan sportsbooks generated $372.5 million in handle and nearly $41 million in revenue.
With usually just the NBA Finals and MLB betting in June, the World Cup brought an added boost to the state. Operators certainly saw an increase in Michigan sports wagering handle compared to the previous June.

World Cup boosts handle
Michigan bettors took advantage of the World Cup as handle increased 20% from the same period last year.
June is when the sports calendar turns lean. However, soccer betting took focus during the month, which extended into July as well.
Michigan did not host any World Cup games, unlike other markets such as Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Despite that, bettors clearly showed interest in the tournament.
DraftKings inches closer
FanDuel led the market with $111.8 million in handle. However, DraftKings Sportsbook MI is right on the leader’s heels.
DraftKings finished the month with $105.7 million in total bets. Both operators increased their handle share in June, from May.
FanDuel went from 28.9% to 30.1% month-over-month, while DraftKings improved from 26.1% in May to 28.4% in June.
Both operators are without question the strongest in the state. The big question remains: will FanDuel be able to hold its lead during and after football season?
Only time will tell.
bet365 check-in
June was bet365 Sportsbook MI‘s second full month of operation in the Great Lakes State. It looks as if the platform has come back down to earth.
New bettors were taking advantage of the MI sportsbook bonuses bet365 was offering in May, as the operator produced $66.8 million in handle. That handle figure dropped to $26 million last month.
Bet365’s handle dip is normal for a new operator. It still finished in the top five behind the aforementioned leaders and BetMGM Sportsbook MI and Fanatics.
The operator is still in a good spot competing in a crowded Michigan market.
