Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort is a tribal casino and hotel located in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, approximately 2.5 hours northwest of Detroit in Central Michigan.
The casino opened in 1996 and the resort in 1998. Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort is owned and operated by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation.
The 210,000-square-foot casino on the property currently boasts more than 3,300 slot machines, 70 table games, a live poker room and a bingo hall. There are nine dining establishments and bars, and a 6,500-capacity indoor concert venue and 16,000-capacity outdoor amphitheater on the property, both hosting various shows and events.
In January 2020, Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort began a hotel remodeling project expected to take about two and a half years to complete. The renovation will include new hotel rooms and infrastructure starting with the sixth and seventh floors, the resort’s front desk and administrative areas. All rooms will be upgraded by mid-2022.
Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort is expected to finalize plans to enter the Michigan online gambling, online poker, and retail, online and mobile sports betting markets in 2020.
Plans to convert the new sports bar and nightclub on the property into a sportsbook are already underway.
Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort management has made it clear it has plans to launch a new sports betting app you can use to bet on sports and play online casino games.
It remains unclear if Soaring Eagle is seeking established online gambling partners for this endeavor, if it will find a software developer, or just create the app independently.
Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort did partner with gaming software developer Aristocrat with plans to launch a free-to-play online casino app in 2013. The result appears to be a casino information and player loyalty program management app that has not been updated in two years.
Since Michigan passed online gambling and sports betting laws, three other Michigan-area tribes have struck deals with online gambling entities. This includes The Stars Group, Scientific Games Corp. and PointsBet Sports Betting, each of which has been tasked with providing online sports betting and online casino services for the tribes.

Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort opened the Ascend sports bar and nightclub in 2018 knowing that legal sports betting in Michigan was a distinct possibility in the not-so-distant future.
In January 2020, with Michigan sports betting laws finally passed, Soaring Eagle Casino officials said Ascend is the property’s new sportsbook or soon-to-be sportsbook.
Ascend advertises itself as the place to be for televised sporting events and live entertainment. There are several large-screen TVs and plenty of seating, in addition to food and drinks.
The venue has the ability to show sports and is a comfortable spot to watch a game. The next step is to install betting kiosks and an odds display. That should happen at some point in 2020.
Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort officials also claim there are plans to launch a new Soaring Eagle app through which you can bet on sports and play online casino games.
The app is still in the works, as are regulations for online gaming and sports betting in Michigan. It is expected to launch in 2021.
Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort officials view retail sports betting as an entity that can drive more people to the property and that online wagering will be an option for those who cannot travel there.

Already owners of one of the largest casinos in the state, members of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation proved they were serious about entertainment options at the property when they converted a former bingo hall into The Entertainment Hall concert venue in 2000.
Five years later the commitment continued with the launch of the Soaring Eagle Outdoor Arena amphitheater in 2005 and the launch of the summer A-list Outdoor Concert Series.
Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort underwent a renovation in 2011 with the Firefly Buffet re-branded as Aurora Buffet and remodeled, providing space for the launch of the 24-hour Legends Diner.
In 2017, the tribe announced plans for a massive $26.5 million renovation.
A new sports bar and nightclub and a new high-limit and VIP lounge area came alongside Entertainment Hall renovations, the enclosing of the casino’s non-smoking area, and a re-designing of the Kid’s Quest and Cyber Quest areas. The poker room was also relocated and the sub shop re-branded. It all opened in 2018.
