DraftKings is going to bat for gamblers who bet on a player that leaves a game early because of injury. The operator has announced the Early Exit Program.

While many Michigan sportsbooks in the past have refunded bettors on a case-by-case basis, DraftKings Sportsbook has laid out an entire program surrounding an injured player exiting a game.

DraftKings rules in player injuries

A DraftKings spokesperson told PlayMichigan on Monday that the program is already up and running in Michigan. The rule applies to both straight bets, as well as parlays, in which that particular leg gets voided.

Since it is baseball season, DraftKings would refund a pitching bet if a starter exits before recording three outs. The operator would refund a position player bet if he leaves before his second at-bat. The rules are the same for the postseason, too.

With the NFL season quickly approaching, a player prop would be refunded if the betting player departs the game before the end of the first quarter, which also applies to the postseason.

The operator has a slightly different set of rules for NBA games. In the regular season, a bettor would be credited if the bet-on player exits prior to the first quarter. In the postseason, the timeframe extends to the first half of games.

In NHL games, the Early Exit Program ules applies to injured players in the first period of the game for the regular season and postseason.

Explaining the refund

For a straight bet, customers will be refunded the amount of the wager in the form of cash credit, which is simple enough. However, a parlay is a little different.

The operator explained how the Early Exit Program would impact a parlay:

“For example: You place a three leg parlay with each leg having individual odds of +100, resulting in total odds of +700. If one leg qualifies for Early Exit and the other two legs remain open, your total odds would be recalculated to +300 based on the two remaining legs’ individual odds of +100.

“If the remaining legs settle as wins, your parlay will be paid out as a winner at the recalculated odds.”

DraftKings also made the clear that type of bets that are eligible for the Early Exit Program:

  • Early Exit only applies to bets placed via the DraftKings Sportsbook app or website.
  • Pre-match player prop bets only
  • Full game player prop bets only
  • Single bets
  • Parlays and Same Game Parlays (SGP/SGPx)
