The policy covers Michigan sports betting customers on player prop wagers through two separate protections that run all football season: First Half Protection, which refunds or voids affected prop bets when a player leaves hurt before halftime; and Forward Progress, new for 2026, which keeps a quarterback’s kneel-down or other non-competitive, yardage-losing plays from tanking a rushing or receiving prop that was otherwise on track to cash.
First Half Protection isn’t new. Fanatics Sportsbook Michigan has run some version of injury protection since 2024. The sportsbook expanded the coverage window to the first half of every professional football game last September.
Forward Progress has been added for this season. It targets a specific, common frustration: a player having a strong statistical day, only for garbage-time kneel-downs to shove the total back under the prop line.

Has Fair Play actually paid out?
The policy got a real test for Michigan NFL bettors in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season, when Kansas City receiver Xavier Worthy left a game with a shoulder injury. Fanatics Sportsbook said the policy delivered full cash refunds on the affected single-player prop bets tied to Worthy and voided them rather than grading them as losses.
Fanatics says Fair Play has protected more than 500,000 customer bets industrywide and prevented roughly $54 million in losses bettors would have suffered.
How does Fair Play Max compare to what other sportsbooks offer?
DraftKings Sportsbook runs a similar Early Exit program, crediting cash equal to the wager if a bet is significantly impacted by an early injury, with coverage through the first half. FanDuel Sportsbook’s Bet Protect pays out bonus bets on pre-game NFL player props, but only if the injury happens in the first quarter, a narrower window than Fanatics’ full first half. TheScore Bet’s Injury Insurance issues a full refund as a bonus bet when a wagered player is ruled out for the rest of the game.
None of those three charge a fee for the coverage, and neither does Fanatics.
Where Fair Play Max actually separates itself from other Michigan Sportsbook promotions is Forward Progress, since none of those competing policies address a prop getting killed by clock-management plays instead of an injury.

An injury refund is generous. A refund for a play call nobody could have foreseen is a different kind of generous, the kind that only shows up once a sportsbook has actually thought about how bettors lose.
