Veterans Day and National Veterans and Military Families Month are upon us, and DraftKings isn’t letting it pass by without notice. In fact, a DraftKings Veterans Month pool allows Michiganders to support a charity dedicated to providing benefits for military families.

DraftKings has launched a free-to-play game with a guaranteed prize pool of $1,000 as part of its support of the Pat Tillman Foundation. It’s perfect timing to remind United States citizens of the virtues of service.

DraftKings Veterans Month pool details

The contest is essentially a popularity-based guessing game. Contestants have to try to predict the most popular answers to a survey about Tillman and other US veterans who had careers in sport.

Examples of the questions in the survey include favorite veteran athlete and favorite Tillman quote. Players must submit answers by noon ET on Nov. 30. DraftKings Casino and DraftKings Sportsbook users can find a link to the contest in the app.

The entry with the most correct guesses wins $100, while the runner-up gets $50. Third and fourth places each get $20, while fifth through 10th secure a $10 payout. From there, the rest of the top 160 entries each get $5.

In addition to the pool, DraftKings is also selling custom camouflage hats in its online shop and donating all the profits to the foundation. The foundation strives to be a worthy memorial to Tillman’s legacy.

Tillman Foundation supports military families

Tillman was a defensive back in the National Football League for four seasons. In the spring of 2002, he left the league to enlist with the US Army. He was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan in 2004. He was one of the more vocal critics of the Iraq War, calling it “imperial folly.”

Since his death, the foundation in his name has provided financial aid to military families. In addition to providing financial assistance for higher education, it also provides a network for “Tillman Scholars” to connect with each other for other resources.

To date, the foundation has provided $22 million in funding for the education of members of the military and their families. With a contingent of 754 Tillman Scholars that continues to grow, the need for funding is consistent.

DraftKings is contributing toward that cause this month, and through the game, Michiganders can do the same.
