The Michigan online casino industry continued its rapid growth in May, with operators generating $305.8 million in gross revenue, a 21.6% increase from the same month last year.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board reported Tuesday that May marked the third consecutive month operators eclipsed the $300 million Michigan online casino revenue threshold.
The market also grew 0.8% from April, signaling that the state’s iGaming industry continues to build momentum more than five years after launch, while others start to stabilize.
Michigan market stays above $300 million
Crossing the $300 million threshold has become a notable benchmark for Michigan’s regulated iGaming industry.
May marked another month above that level after operators produced more than $300 million in April. While the industry increased at a 0.8% rate month-over-month, the year-over-year trends continue to grow rapidly. The market increased 21.6% from last year.
Since launching in January 2021, Michigan has emerged as one of the country’s premier iGaming jurisdictions, consistently competing with Pennsylvania and New Jersey for the highest monthly revenue totals. Pennsylvania is starting to see year-over-year growth rates slow as Michigan continues to see rates rise at least 20%.
In April, Pennsylvania’s year-over-year growth rate slid to 9%.
Michigan Gaming Control Board Public Information Officer Lisa Keith told PlayMichigan last week:
“Michigan’s iGaming market continues to demonstrate growth, with new revenue highs being reported on a regular basis. While we won’t speculate on when the market will ultimately mature, current trends suggest we have not yet reached that point.”
Michigan launched iGaming two years after Pennsylvania, which likely factors into the large growth rates for the Great Lakes State. Pennsylvania’s May revenue report is likely to come out later this week.
Benefiting from new operators
Michigan has finally reached the 15-operator cap the state set with bet365 Casino launching in April.
Hard Rock Bet was the last operator to launch before bet365 in December 2025.
In bet365’s first full month as a Michigan operator, it produced $11.1 million in revenue, which is a large contribution considering April generated only $3.7 million in half of the month.
Hard Rock Bet posted $21.1 million last month and has eclipsed $20 million in every full month since its launch.
Keith touted to PlayMichigan the role new operators have played in the market:
“New operator launches continue to play a meaningful role in market development. Each new market entry contributes to increased competition, greater innovation, and more choices for Michigan players.”
Both operators are expected to play key roles as 2026 progresses.
FanDuel creates more separation
FanDuel Casino remains the leader in the iGaming clubhouse, recording $77.4 million in May revenue. That led all operators, including second-place finisher BetMGM Casino, which produced $64.3 million last month.
BetMGM had climbed within roughly $5 million of FanDuel in April. However, May proved to another dominating month for FanDuel, which has taken over as the No. 1 iGaming operator in the state.
The combination of continued market growth and increased operator competition suggests Michigan’s online gaming market still has room to grow.
