The top two online casino operators in Michigan, FanDuel and BetMGM, put together another showdown in July. By a slim margin, FanDuel came out on top.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board reported on Tuesday that operators produced $250.5 million in July revenue. FanDuel led the market for the second straight month, posting $63.1 million compared to BetMGM’s $62.0 million.
The Michigan online casino industry is clearly a two-horse race with five months to go in 2025.
FanDuel vs. BetMGM through seven months
It’s the first time FanDuel Casino produced more revenue than BetMGM Casino in consecutive months. Through June, FanDuel had a narrow $118,466 lead over BetMGM in 2025.
It extended its lead a little more after July:
- FanDuel: $451,539,786
- BetMGM: $450,343,102
Standalone Hollywood app paying off
Penn Entertainment launched a standalone Hollywood Casino in Michigan earlier this year. The company is starting to see the fruits of its labor.
Hollywood celebrated its best month ever in the Great Lakes State, recording $8.4 million in July revenue. That’s far and away better than the previous six months:
- January: $6.3 million
- February: $5.3 million
- March: $7.3 million
- April: $6.6 million
- May: $7.2 million
- June: $7.5 million
In a Q2 earnings call earlier this month, Penn CEO Jay Snowden announced that July “marked our highest ever iCasino GGR in both Pennsylvania and Michigan.” Snowden also talked about how the company’s omnichannel strategy in Michigan is paying off.
“In Michigan, year-to-date, we have seen year-over-year increases of 28% in retail theoretical play and 242% in online theoretical play.
“These are encouraging trends for sure, having both a retail and digital relationship with your consumer is clearly a major key to success for the industry moving forward.”
Revenue up YoY and MoM
It’s always possible the summer could cause a slight slump for the gaming industry as a whole. Not so for Michigan iGaming in July.
Michigan online casino revenue was up 4.1% month-over-month and 30.9% year-over-year. Last July, operators generated just $191.4 million in revenue.
The July market finished roughly $10 million off from the record set in March. It’s possible operators could break it during the fall months.
