Michigan sportsbooks made the most of a June calendar with only the NBA Finals and baseball on the docket

Michigan sportsbooks generated $309.9 million in handle and $45.3 million in revenue. Both are all-time highs for June.

As expected, sports betting activity dropped off from May, but handle was up 8.7% year-over-year and revenue outpaced June 2024 by a staggering 42.5%, according to the monthly report from the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

June sports betting by the numbers

  • Handle: $309.9 million ($302.7 million online)
  • Revenue: $45.3 million ($44.6 million online)
  • Hold: 14.6%
  • Month-over-month: Total handle decreased 21.6%
  • Sports betting taxes: $2.4 million to state and local taxes
  • Top online sports betting app by handle: FanDuel with $105.6 million
  • Top online sports betting app by revenue: FanDuel with $18.7 million

Operators post second-highest hold rate of 2025

Michigan sports bettors did not fare well in June, as operators enjoyed a 14.6% hold percentage, the second highest percentage of the year behind just January (14.9%).

To no surprise, FanDuel Sportsbook MI led in each and every category. It posted an impressive hold rate of 17.7%.

Operators have posted the following hold rates in 2025:

  • January: 14.9%
  • February: 12.1
  • March: 6.9%
  • April: 10.1%
  • May: 13.0%
  • June: 14.6%

It has certainly been a banner year for Michigan sportsbooks in 2025. Operators are hoping for the same when football season kicks off in September.

ESPN BET is back to 5% market share

All eyes have been on ESPN BET ever since Penn Entertainment severed ties with Barstool. They made a 10-year agreement but have an opt-out clause after three years, which is in 2026.

ESPN BET dipped below 5% market share in May but rebounded in June to finish at nearly 5.2%. The operator has been consistent, and even almost reached 6% in March:

  • January: 5.6%
  • February: 5.3%
  • March: 5.9%
  • April: 5.7%
  • May: 4.9%
  • June: 5.2%

Penn and ESPN are certainly shooting for market share that is closer to 10% during football season. The 4th quarter of 2025 could be make-or-break for the partnership.

Fanatics delivers strong month

Fanatics Sportsbook finished as the fourth operator, in terms of handle, in June. The operator produced $26.2 million in handle and nearly $4 million in revenue.

Fanatics turned in the second-best hold rate of operators last month at 15.1%, just behind FanDuel.

The operator has certainly become formidable in Michigan. Both its online casino and sports betting products are ascending in the Great Lakes State.
